About Mr Jamie Vatish

Mr. Jamie Vatish is a Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon with expertise in all breast related conditions.

As a consultant who practices exclusively in breast surgery, he offers a comprehensive service for patients requiring treatment for breast cancer, benign breast disease, or for those who simply require reassurance.

With advanced training in oncoplastic and aesthetic surgery, Mr Vatish skilfully integrates cancer surgery with techniques that maintain the breast’s overall cosmetic appearance. He tailors the surgical treatment of breast cancer to patients’ wishes, whilst always maintaining oncological safety.

He uses a wide range of oncoplastic techniques in suitable patients and is one of the only surgeons in the West Midlands proficient in using Chest Wall Perforator Flaps, a technique which can avoid the need for a mastectomy.

Background

Mr Vatish grew up in Birmingham before training at Guy’s, King’s, and St Thomas’ Medical School in London, where he qualified with honours and with an additional degree in Psychology in 2010. Following his higher, general surgical training in the Midlands, he was selected for the prestigious National Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, a program available to only a select few breast and plastic surgeons each year. During his fellowship at the renowned Leeds Breast Unit, he developed skills in complex breast cancer management as well as cosmetic breast surgery.

Mr Vatish was appointed a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon in 2023 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The QEHB breast unit is one of the largest in the UK and treats over a thousand breast cancers per year. In addition to managing patients with breast cancer, Mr Vatish is an integral part of the West Midlands regional service for treating Breast Sarcomas which are rare but aggressive cancers which require specialist expertise to ensure the best outcomes. He also has a specialist interest and advanced training in the management of Breast Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare type of immune cancer associated with Breast Implants.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Vatish plays a vital role in training future doctors and surgeons. He holds a degree in medical education and serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He is involved with training all grades of doctors including those who are at the end of training and supports the delivery of the National Trainee Interface Group (TIG) Breast fellowship.

Mr Vatish is frequently invited to teach at the Royal College of Surgeons in London and has published extensively on various surgical and breast disease topics, with a focus on breast cancer genomics and breast-conserving techniques.
